Planning your day

Welcome to Marwell Zoo!

We want you to enjoy a great day at the zoo, so we’ve put together FAQs detailing everything you need to know ahead of your visit.

For more information, see what’s on Today at Marwell.

Guest notices:

    • Due to an Avian Influenza case detected near Romsey, Hampshire, we have increased our biosecurity measures to protect the birds in our care. Please use the foot dips when entering and exiting the zoo and use hand washing facilities where provided. Thank you for your understanding.
    • Penguin Cove and Penguin Cove Playground are currently closed for renovation. You’ll be able to find the penguins in a temporary habitat near our snow leopards.
    • We’re starting work on an exciting new café, The Keeper’s Kitchen – due to open in May 2025 next to our Gift Shop.

Coming soon: The Keeper’s Kitchen

We’re about to embark on an ambitious plan to transform the zoo’s entrance into a brand new plaza, featuring a 100-seater café, outdoor terrace, and space for special events. The plaza and café will be open to everyone all year round – no zoo ticket needed.

Book your entry online

For a regular zoo visit we strongly recommend you book your day visit tickets in advance here. This not only helps to ensure you get the best price for your visit but guarantees entry for your day of choice.

Annual Members and guests with pre-paid tickets, such as adoptions, agent or complimentary tickets, do not need to book in advance. All tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable once booked.

Important Update:

Our Energy for Life: Tropical House and walkthrough aviaries have strict measures in place in accordance with national legislation to protect our birds and prevent any future spread of Avian influenza.

  • Additional handwashing, sanitisers, foot mats and foot dips have been put in place at our walkthrough areas.  If you see these on your journey through the zoo, please use them.
  • If you keep captive birds at home, who are usually outdoors, please avoid entering our walkthrough aviaries and Energy for Life: Tropical House.

Thank you so much for your understanding. We can’t wait to see you soon!

Planning ahead

As an outdoor attraction our indoor areas are limited. Don’t forget to check the forecast before you book and make sure you dress for the weather.

If animals are not immediately visible, they could be resting in their den or under a shady tree so make time to pop back later. It will be worth the wait!

Sorry no cash

All payments are by card only and we’d really appreciate you using contactless (£100 limit) wherever you can. Please note, we do not accept American Express.

Eat and drink

Café Graze, the Coffee Shop and our outdoor catering outlets are open.  Some outlets are seasonal and you will find more information here.
